375-FUL Taksim – Kabataş

Explanation

Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group has built a tunnel funicular line to Taksim, which is higher than sea level, which is the access point to the transportation of subway, bus and tram from Kabataş, Bosphorus port of Yenikapi, where ships and sightseeing boats approach to Istanbul. The rail line can carry 7500 passengers per hour. Each one has a mechanic compartment. Trains are always accompanied by a driver.

The single line with a length of 550 meters (1,805 feet) rises vertically to 73 meters / 240 feet with 22% highest slope. The trains pass by each other in the middle of the line, at the Abt-type transit. Due to the low slope at the stations, the tow rope and the opposite rope are used.

Station slopes are only 5%, which means that wheelchair users will not have any trouble, and that twenty-hour-a-day vehicles add up to 80,000 km or 50,000 miles a year.
